(ECNS) – Shenzhen's Luohu Customs officials have seized 76 pieces of python skin worth 700,000 yuan ($114,870) from two Hong Kong women, the Guangzhou Daily reported.

The two women were detained at Luohu Port on Nov. 13. One carried 40 pieces of snake skin, and the other carried 36 pieces, each piece measuring around 2.5 meters by 0.2 meters.

The Guangdong-based South China Institute of Endangered Animals identified the seized snake skins as skin from pythons, which are a class 1 protected species of the national government in China.

Each piece of python skin is estimated to be worth 10,000 yuan ($1,641), according to the institute.
