(ECNS) -- A picture of "lake monsters" at Heaven Lake (Tianchi Lake) located on Mount Bogda, Fukang city of Xinjiang, released on Monday shows two creatures swimming with their white dorsal fins above the water.
Nearly a hundred visitors said they caught sight of the "lake monsters" while they were walking around the edge of the scenic spot last Sunday.
They were about 1.5 to 2 meters long, they said.
"I saw some water ripples appear in the lake when I was shooting pictures at the edge of the lake," said Chen Jianwen, who was first among the tourists to see the creature.
"With a second look, I found dim figures of two 'animals' swimming with their white dorsal fins above the water," said Chen. "The two animals made waves stretching about 10 meters when they were swimming."
The two "monsters" submerged into the water after swimming close to the surface of the lake for about 10 minutes.
A tourist from Guangzhou took pictures of the creatures with a camera using a telephoto lens, but those pictures are not that clear.
Heaven Lake is located half way up Bogda Peak in Fukang County, 110km east of Urumqi City. Believed by many locals to be a holy lake, various legends state there are monsters living in the depths of the lake, much like the Scottish legend of Loch Ness.
