Photo titled "Lushan Xianrendong" (Immortal's Cave on Lushan Mountain), taken by Jiang Qing during a trip to Jiangxi province's Lushan Mountain with Chairman Mao in 1961.
Beijing (ECNS) -- A landscape photo by Jiang Qing, Chairman Mao's last wife, is up for auction and expected to bring in big bucks, as another of her photos had done in May.
The preview-auction exhibition held by Huachen Auctions on Tuesday in Beijing includes a special "red classic" photography series, one of which is a photo titled "Lushan Xianrendong" (Immortal's Cave on Lushan Mountain), taken by Jiang Qing during a trip to Jiangxi province's Lushan Mountain with Chairman Mao in 1961.
The photo won praise from Mao, who also wrote a poem about it, said Li Xin, manager of Huachen's photography department, who added that it also highlighted Jiang's favoring of backlighting, a significant influence on Chinese photography during the period.
A photo of Mao relaxing in a wicker chair against a scenic backdrop of Lushan Mountain, also by Jiang, fetched 340,000 yuan ($55,300) at auction in May, 10 times the pre-sale estimate.
Li said "red classic" photography is getting recognition on the market, a reason to be bullish, and there has been growth too in bidding from public museums and libraries hoping to enrich their collections.
Dozens of photography works, including a photo of Norman Bethune, some by foreign news agencies, some by famous war photographers, will also be auctioned.
