World’s first panda post opens in Chengdu

(ECNS) -- To mark the 44th World Post Day, the capital of Sichuan province launched the world's first Panda Post on Wednesday.

Panda Post, which is different from a normal panda-themed post, boasts its own date stamps and special zip code, according to an official from the municipal post bureau in Chengdu at a press conference held on Tuesday.

Panda Post's zip code is 610088, which is a unique one in the international zip code database, since the code breaks the regional restrictions on regular postal codes.

Beside the special zip code, six kinds of panda-themed postmarks were released at the press conference.

Letters sent out from the post will be marked with panda-themed stamps.

"We have prepared for a year for the launching of the post," said Peng Yu, vice director of the municipal post bureau.

"Our next plan is to improve the number of the post and make its branches cover more scenic spots in Chengdu."
