(ECNS) -- A homeless man in the United States turned in a backpack containing $41,900 and a passport that he found at South Bay Mall in Dorchester, Boston, on Saturday, according to a US-based Chinese-language website.

The backpack's contents included $2,400 in cash and $39,500 in American Express traveler's checks. A passport was also found, indicating that the backpack's owner was a Chinese.

The man flagged down police patrolling the mall and told them that he found the backpack in front of a store.

Officers took the backpack and its contents, and they notified store security at South Bay Mall about the backpack.

Later that night, police were contacted by an employee at Best Buy who said a Chinese customer lost his backpack. The passport matched the customer's identity and the backpack was returned to him.
