(ECNS) – A 13-year-old boy hanged himself at home on Monday evening, and police are investigating the incident, according to Hong Kong's Ta Kung Pao.

The boy's family called the police when they found him in a coma, and he died later at the hospital.

As Monday was the first day of the new school year in Hong Kong, the police were investigating whether back-to-school issues were relevant to the boy's suicide.

Another teenage girl was reported to have cut her wrist at home on Monday morning, and the police said mood disorder could not be excluded.

The girl, 16, surnamed Fan, harmed herself on back-to-school day last year, and was diagnosed with a mood disorder.
