Guangzhou (CNS) -- Two British women who injured three Chinese merchants in Guangzhou have been penalized and criminal charges against them have been dropped, local police said on Tuesday.
On June 21, Idowu Modupe Aderonke and Badmos Omolewa Est became embroiled in a violent dispute with Chinese merchants in Liwan district of Guangzhou, police said. The women were detained the following day and guaranteed a bail on July 29.
Police said they had removed criminal charges against the women and lifted their pending trial at the same time. Penalties were levied in accordance with the country's regulations, they added.
The police hope that foreigners will obey China's laws and not harm public interests or disturb social order.
