Washington (CNS) -- A Chinese private English-language television network has made its debut in Washington DC and surrounding regions.

The Blue Ocean Network (BON) was launched Wednesday on MHz Networks, and offers programing about Chinese news, business, culture, and life through channel MHz 5, which has previously aired programming produced by Al Jazeera.

MHz Networks is an independent, non-commercial television broadcaster with 12 channels. Channel MHz 3 and Channel MHz 6 also broadcast CCTV programming.

BON Chairman Gu Yifan said that as the first independent English TV network coming out of China, BON is positioned to present China from a different perspective and tell true stories about the country.

Established in 2008, BON has debuted in New York, Los Angeles and Hawaii since 2009.
