(ECNS) -- Beijing Red Cross Emergency Center (999) made its first international air transfer at around 5 o'clock on Monday morning, according to bjnews.com.cn.

A 999 helicopter transported a 70-year-old American professor from Utah University from the Miyun Airport in Beijing to Tianjin, then to a 999 medical plane to Seoul. An American emergency plane waiting there will transfer him to Utah for further treatment.

This is the first seamless international transfer that spanned China, the Republic of Korea and the United States.

The old professor suffered a traffic accident on the way from Nyingchi to Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on July 4, resulting in internal injuries and fractures.

He was later treated at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. At the request of his relatives, he was sent back to US for follow-up treatment.
