(ECNS) – "Blues tears," which are usually seen between April and May off Taiwan's Matsu Islands, appeared on the water's surface on Tuesday evening, ebc.net.tw reported.
The "tears" are caused by ostracodes. When ruffled by waves, these glowworms emit light-blue fluorescence.
Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, specks of blue light appeared on the sea. As waves struck the beach, blue fluorescence emerged, looking like shining meteors on the dark sea.
Besides seeing "blue tears", tourists can also leave "blue footprints" on the beach.
