(ECNS) -- A community shopping center, Shauna Downs, in the southern district of Brisbane, Australia, was purchased by a Chinese immigrant for 4 million Australian dollars.

Peter Huang, a commercial principal who struck the deal, said the new owner was part of the local Chinese community and had other commercial and industrial holdings in the area.

Huang said he had fielded more than 20 inquiries from potential buyers before the asset was due to go under the hammer earlier this month.

The new owner, who is from the Chinese mainland, sealed the pre-auction deal with a strong cash offer and two-week settlement, said Huang.

Located on the corner of Wynne Street and Beenleigh Road, the suburban retail strip covers an area of 3,771 square meters.

The shopping center has 10 tenants with a combined net area of 1,157 square meters.

It was sold with nine tenants in place, including a Foodworks convenience store, bakery, butcher, Chinese takeaway and fish and chip shop.

"Chinese buyers have been very strong in today's market," said Huang, adding that "Buying a shopping center with two weeks settlement and without borrowing any money is certainly not common among traditional Australian shopping center buyers."
