(ECNS) -- A 100-year-old building was destroyed after a quick-spreading fire broke out in Toronto's East Chinatown early Saturday.

The building is located near Broadview Avenue and Gerard Street East in Toronto, Canada. At the ground level of the building is a Chinese grocery store, with apartments above.

Smoke was discovered about 5 o'clock Saturday morning from apartments on the second and third floors, said firefighter Bob O'Hallar.

No civilians suffered injuries, but two firefighters were taken to the hospital, fire officials said. One of them suffered from heat exhaustion, and the other may have broken some ribs after a fall.

Since the structure of the building has been severely destroyed by the fire, the city's building department will decide whether the building should be demolished.

Further investigation of the cause of the fire is still underway.
