北京再植百万平米路树 “绿色走廊”改善气态污染

北京市交通委相关负责人4日表示，北京今年计划新增公路绿化面积107万平方米，绿化里程425公里。

Beijing (CNS) -- Beijing is expected to increase its highway green area by 1.07 million square meters within the year to help improve the city's ability to adsorb gaseous pollutants, according to Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport on Tuesday.

This year, Beijing is expected to allocate 65 million yuan (10.6 million US dollars) to highway green belt construction around the city, according to Wang Zhongyi, vice director of the commission.

A total of 37,000 trees and 25,000 bushes will be planted according to the construction program, said Wang, adding that 70% of the program has been accomplished.

The number of registered vehicles in Beijing has reached 5.2 million, and automobile emissions account for more than one-fifth of the city's PM2.5 particles, the commission said.

The highway green area is expected to increase by 2.24 million square meters by 2015.
