HK's young people urged to work in construction

Hong Kong (CNS) — The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's chief executive Leung Chun Ying has called on young people in the region to work in the construction industry.

The construction industry has been playing an important role in promoting Hong Kong's development as an international metropolis, Leung wrote on his blog Tuesday.

Hong Kong will launch several large-scale infrastructure projects, with annual spending of 70 billion Hong Kong dollars, he said. Besides those projects, Hong Kong will add tens of thousands of buildings in the next few years, which will also require huge labour input.

Faced with a large number of construction projects and a poor talent pool for the construction industry, Hong Kong will develop and deliver policy incentives to introduce more professional workers, he added.

Leung pointed out that construction is an active industry that offers good career prospects for workers. He called on young people to seize the opportunity and engage in the construction industry, so as to build Hong Kong into a better place.
