Guangdong to build world-class wireless hub  

广东提出在5至7年内建成全球领先的无线城市群

记者从16日在广州举行的宽带无线城市群高峰论坛上获悉，广东提出将在未来5-7年内，把广东建成全球领先的无线城市群，实现最大的无线宽带网络、最快的无线宽带速度、最多的无线城市应用、最广的无线覆盖人群。

Guangzhou (ECNS) -- Guangdong plans to build a world-class wireless city group in China in the next five to seven years, in order to provide the largest, fastest and widest telecom service, according to the Guangdong branch of China Mobile.

Xu Long, general manager of the branch, said at a forum that the Pearl River Delta will be built into an Asia-class wireless city group by 2015 and a world-class one by 2017. Guangdong branch will continue to invest hundreds of billions of yuan in the project, he added.

The high-speed wireless network will provide service in public utilities, including transportation, medical, educational and other areas, he said.

Construction of the wireless city hub in Guangdong was started in 2009 and has been operational since 2011.

Guangdong has the largest number of mobile phone users in China, reaching 125 million.
