No Chinese reported hurt in Iran earthquake so far

(CNS) -- The Chinese Embassy in Iran confirmed on Wednesday that there have been no reports of overseas Chinese dead or injured in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the Iran-Pakistan border.

The powerful earthquake hit the border region at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday. The epicenter was in southeast Iran, 65 kilometers off Saravan county of Sistan and Baluchestan province, according to a local website.

It was the biggest earthquake in Iran in 56 years, according to Fars News Agency in Iran. The head of Saravan county says there have been no deaths in the earthquake so far and only 27 people were injured.
