Beijing (CNS) – Ninety-five rural doctors from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region have begun a 14-day medical training program in Beijing.

The trainees include doctors from various ethnic minorities as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. For most of them, this is their first trip to the capital.

Jointly sponsored by central government agencies and the Business Development Center of the Red Cross Society of China, the first training session was opened Tuesday at the Beijing Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital.

The training will focus on remote tele-consultation for disease diagnosis to improve on-the-spot medical examinations and treatment, and give local residents in Xinjiang access to medical services from elite experts.

When the session concludes, excellent trainees will be selected and ambulances will be awarded to the counties where they work, said Jiang Dan, director of the Business Development Center.

The pilot program "Red Cross 999 Ambulance" will then follow, Jiang said. These moves aim to bring advanced medical concepts and medical skills to the grassroots level, he added.
