Hong Kong won’t lift ban on milk powder purchase

(Ecns.cn)--The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government will not specify a time frame for lifting the ban on milk powder being taken out of Hong Kong, Chief Executive Leung Chen-ying said during an interview at the Boao Forum on Sunday.

Leung added that the limit is to allay residents' fears that local stores will run out of infant milk formula, and also to ensure supply to the mainland and foreign countries.

Starting March 1, an amendment to the Hong Kong import and export law says that one person can take out only two cans, or 1.8 kilograms, of baby formula. And that person must be at least 16 years old and must not have left the city in the last 24 hours.
