Taipei (CNS) -- A network for the prevention of suicide was launched in Taipei on Saturday.

Wu Den-yih, the deputy leader of Taiwan, attended the network's launch ceremony at Da-An Forest Park.

Wu said that the number of suicides in Taiwan last year reached 3,500. "Suicide prevention requires support from all circles of society in Taiwan. The local government should be committed to building an inclusive and welcoming society," he said.

Under the slogan "no one left behind," the campaign has been initiated by the Hua-yen Society, a life educational center. Various educational activities are expected to be held in the next four months by the campaign.

According to statistics released by the local department of health, 37,834 people committed suicide between 2002 and 2011 in Taiwan.
