With rising prices, tourists reluctant to travel   

景区掀“涨价潮”最高涨幅167% 网友叹玩不起

近期，随着旅游旺季的到来，国内景区掀起了新一轮“涨价潮”，凤凰古城、江西婺源景区、四川峨眉山、扬州瘦西湖等多家知名景区纷纷上调了门票价格，最高涨幅达到了167%。

(CNS) -- As China enters the peak tourist season, ticket prices for several scenic spots in the country have increased.

With Qingming Festival and the May Day holiday approaching, ticket prices in several scenic spots have skyrocketed.

According to official figures, ticket prices at Jiangxi province's Wuyuan Scenic Resort has jumped by 17 percent, from 180 yuan ($29) to 210 yuan; prices for Emei Mountain in Sichuan province has increased by 23 percent, to 185 yuan.

Sightseeing buses for the Jufeng peak scenic spot at Laoshan Mountain in Shandong province will now cost 40 yuan instead 15 yuan, an increase of 167 percent.

A survey conducted by the China Tourism Academy shows that 89.2 percent of tourists in China think ticket prices are too high to pay, and the surging prices have made them reluctant to travel.

The tourism industry's over-reliance on revenue from ticket sales is the major reason for the soaring ticket prices, said Wang Yan, a professor at the Department of Tourism Management at Beijing Jiaotong University.

The tourism industry in China should seek to diversify its profit sources through all areas of the industry, in order to achieve a balanced development mode, Wang added.
