Nanchang (CNS) -- A sunken ship was discovered on Monday in the Laoyemiao area of Poyang Lake in East China's Jiangxi province, according to the Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology of Jiangxi province in Nanchang on Monday.

The ship was discovered under a diving exploration project jointly launched on Monday by the Underwater Cultural Heritage Protection Center of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) and the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.

The boat was made of iron and was probably from the 1970s or '80s, according to a preliminary analysis by archaeologists.

The Laoyemiao area of the lake is often referred to as "China's Bermuda Triangle" because of the large number of boats that have sunk mysteriously in the area over the years.
