与苏轼、黄庭坚等并列“宋代四大书法家之一”米芾的国宝级画作《深山夜雨》17日将在纽约拍卖会上亮相。
New York (CNS) -- A painting by Mi Fu, a famous Chinese painter from the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), will go on sale at a starting price of 200 million yuan (US$30 million) at an auction to be held in New York on Sunday.
The painting titled "Rain on Mountains" is a landscape hanging scroll by Mi Fu, one of the four greatest calligraphers from the Northern Song Dynasty, about 1,000 years ago.
Mi was a master of regular script in small characters, clerical characters, running script and seal characters. He was also known for his lofty, poised and unruly personality.
The work will be part of the Fine Chinese Paintings, Ceramics, Bronzes and Works of Art Auction, to be held on Sunday by the New York-based Gianguan Auctions.
Authentic works by Mi Fu are exceptionally rare. Collectors who have authentic works by Mi Fu are reluctant to show them to the public, because these works are too precious to be shown, said Kwong Lum, proprietor of Gianguan Auctions.
"I bought the landscape 'Rain on Mountains' from a foreign collector 20 years ago," Kwong added.
Besides Mi Fu's "Rain on Mountains", several other masterpieces, including "Mandarin Ducks in Lotus Pond" by Northern Song Dynasty painter Xu Chogsi, and "Scholar at Work" by painter Zhang Daqian, will also be auctioned at the event.
Founded in 2002, Gianguan Auctions is a Chinese-owned and -operated auction house in New York, and it specializes in Asian and Chinese arts.
