Beijing (CNS) -- Central China's Hunan province plans to restart its nuclear power project, the delegation from the province said in a proposal Monday afternoon at the group discussion of a session of the 12th National People's Congress.

The Taohuajiang nuclear power station, one of the three inland nuclear power stations in China, stopped construction after the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in Japan in 2011.

Hunan is short on energy and relies on power from other provinces. Thermal power, hydropower, wind and solar power generation cannot fully meet the demand for energy, the proposal said.

"Security is top priority in nuclear power development, and we have solved all the safety problems of the nuclear power station," said Xu Shoushen, governor of Hunan province.
