Guiyang (CNS) -- There have been no more reports of humans infected by bird flu in Guizhou province since two cases were confirmed last weekend, according to the local government on Friday.

Two residents of Guiyang, a 21-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, were confirmed by the Ministry of Health to have contracted avian influenza H5N1 last Sunday.

The woman named Shuai Pengyue died of multiple organ failure at the Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital on Wednesday morning. The other patient, named Cai Rushan, was still in critical condition. It was reported that both had had close contact with birds.

Altogether 58 out of 110 citizens who had contact with the two patients have been released from medical observation.

The local government has sent teams to inspect poultry markets and poultry farms as well as monitor epidemic control programs.
