Military official urges US to be 'practical'

中国人民解放军副总参谋长戚建国29日指出，当前，世界安全形势面临诸多现实问题，我们认为，解决问题的最好途径是对话而不是对抗。

Beijing (CNS) -- China hopes that the United States will take a responsible attitude and be practical about sustaining regional peace and stability, a senior military official said Tuesday morning.

Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, made the remarks at a meeting with a delegation from the US House of Representatives.

Aimed at a new bilateral relationship featuring win-win cooperation, mutual trust and favorable interaction, China and the United States should promote relations between the armies of both sides with vision, rationality and respect, he said.

Rick Larsen, co-chair of the US-China Working Group of the US House of Representatives and head of the delegation, said that both sides have been making efforts to promote a good relationship. The US hopes the two can seek common ground while reducing hesitation, he added.
