Section of land sinks in Guangzhou

Guangzhou (CNS) -- An area of land measuring about 300 square meters sank yesterday afternoon in Liwan district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

The subsidence occurred at about 5 p.m. at a road junction near a subway tunnel construction site, causing some buildings to collapse.

Some residents living on or near the site have been hospitalized, but the extent of their injuries was not clear.

No casualties have been reported, according to the Guangzhou Metro Corporation, which is in charge of the construction site.

Rescuers have already filled the sunken area with concrete.

There is no further risk and the accident site is stable, the Guangzhou Metro said on its official microblog.
