Beijing (CNS) -- Fung Ming-Chu, the director of Taipei's Palace Museum, said on Tuesday that cultural exchanges between museums in the mainland and Taiwan would achieve more if they were treated "normally."

Fung spoke to reporters during her visit to the Forbidden City, saying that such cultural exchanges were necessary for the future. "After all, our cultures are very similar and derived from the same source," she said.

Fung stressed that she hoped no reporters would follow her during her next visit to Beijing. Media on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should treat cultural exchanges normally to achieve more benefit, she added.

Fung is in Beijing to borrow artifacts for a special exhibition on Emperor Qian Long to be held at the Taipei museum in October. Both sides have discussed plans for further cooperation, including special exhibitions in 2015 to mark the founding anniversary of the museums, reports have said.
