Public decries 'wedding' at kindergarten

受正统思想禁锢的中国民众历来谈“性”色变，郑州一家幼儿园日前举办“幼儿集体婚礼”对儿童进行性教育，引发公众“口诛笔伐”，指责幼儿园此举“变态”。

Zhengzhou (CNS) -- A mock group wedding involving 100 five-year-olds at a kindergarten in central China's Henan Province has aroused strong public opposition.

The preschool, located in the provincial capital of Zhengzhou, held the mass wedding last week as part of its "development education" and invited parents to witness the ceremony.

A local newspaper released photos of the event not long after, showing the young "couples" kissing and "grooms" kneeling down and putting rings on the tiny fingers of the "brides."

More than 90 percent of netizens have opposed the kindergarten's move and questioned its motives, arguing that such behavior could harm the children's minds or that it was a publicity stunt.

Reporters interviewed citizens on the street in Zhengzhou and found that the majority held a negative attitude. A citizen who has an eight-year-old daughter told reporters that it's not right to force children to focus on such things.

Liu Xiulan, an expert in children's psychology, said the mock wedding dragged the children into the adult world too early and may cause confusion.

The kindergarten responded that it was merely a game, and totally different than the relationships shared by adults.

A parent whose child participated in the wedding supported the kindergarten.
