Fuzhou (CNS) -- A former official and her family in southeast China's Fujian Province have been accused of owning an exorbitant amount of property.

A woman named Chen Xiuping said online last Friday that Tian Liqin, the former deputy director of Fujian's Securities Regulatory Bureau (SRB), owned 16 houses worth more than 50 million yuan.

Chen, who claims to live abroad, told reporters yesterday afternoon that she had submitted written accusations to relevant departments, but refused to reveal the names of those departments.

The SRB said they hadn't received any written accusations, but had reported Chen's allegations to the China Securities Regulatory Commission. An investigation has been launched, the bureau said.

Tian and her husband each have three houses and co-own three others, while her son has seven, according to Chen, who gave the detailed locations of the properties.

Unlike another recent whistle-blower, Chen gave her real name and telephone number online. She told reporters that she felt under great pressure and was concerned about her safety. She mentioned a bonsai in her garden that had been destroyed last Saturday, which had led her to call the police.

Chen said the accusation resulted from a neighborhood dispute.

Tian could not be reached by telephone yesterday.
