Changzhi (CNS)-- Government authorities appear divided over whether a chemical leak from a plant owned by the Tianji Coal Chemical Industry Group in Shanxi Province resulted in pollution downstream in Henan Province's Anyang city, according to local media on Monday.

Based on an investigation, the water in Anyang's Yuecheng Reservoir is safe and all indexes rate as "standard," Liu Dashan, chief engineer of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Shanxi Province, said at a press conference Sunday.

Yet according to an announcement released by the Anyang government, water in the Yuecheng Reservoir had tested positive for excessive aniline and volatile phenol after the contamination.
