Foshan (CNS)-- Many irregularities exist in China's cultural relics identification industry, so it requires further regulation, according to Lei Yun, a researcher at the National Museum of China in Foshan, Guangdong Province.

The identification of relics largely depends on the observations of experts, so the true value of a cultural relic often depends on the moral quality and professional ethics of the person inspecting it, Lei said on Saturday.

Driven by outside interests, some so-called "experts" will approve fakes, he added.

Lei pointed out that illegal behavior of this kind not only reduces public trust in the cultural relics industry, it also disturbs the order of the art market.

Going forward, the industry should use more advanced technology to supplement expert opinion, he suggested.
