Lanzhou (CNS)-- The Dunhuang "culture park" is serving as a strong driver for the promotion of local tourism, the Dunhuang Municipal Administration Office announced Wednesday.

Dunhuang was a transportation hub on the Silk Road in ancient China, so it is home to many historic sites and scenic spots, including the Mogao Caves, Mingsha Mountain and the Crescent Moon Spring, the administration said.

To make these attractions better serve tourism development, the municipal government has set up a "culture park" covering the whole city. The park has launched 12 projects this year, at a cost over 100 million yuan (US$16 million), said the administration.

Over 20 art exhibitions featuring paintings and calligraphies have been hosted this year, and events such as symphony orchestra concerts and folk concerts have also been held. Between January and November, the total tourism income of Dunhuang reached 2.6 billion yuan (US$416.9 million), according to the office.
