Car plate funds to improve public transport

今年7月起广州实施“限牌令”，并拿出中小客车增量指标总量的四成进行公开竞拍，至今年11月共4个月时间，车牌竞拍所得达15092万元人民币。

Guangzhou (CNS)-- More than 150 million yuan (US$24 million) earned from the auction of private car license plates in Guangzhou will be used to subsidize public transportation in the city, according to the Guangzhou municipal government on Monday.

To control traffic congestion, the local government introduced a policy in July which requires 40 percent of citizens to get automobile license plates through auctions.

A total of 150,920,000 yuan had been earned from the auctions by the end of November, according to official statistics.

All the money will be used to facilitate the development of public transportation in Guangzhou, including the purchase of new buses and bus station improvements, the city government said.
