Lhasa (CNS)-- The "doomsday" on the Mayan calendar is totally groundless, according to an expert in Tibetan astronomy on Sunday.

Tibetan astronomy, which boasts a history of over 2,000 years, can forecast the timing of celestial events such as solar and lunar eclipses, said the expert, who added that there is no such thing as "doomsday" in Tibetan astronomy.

"Doomsday" refers to the destruction of Earth by man-made calamities or celestial events. So far there have been no signs that these things will take place, the expert said.
