Stockholm (CNS)-- Nobel Laureate Mo Yan shared a behind-the-scenes story of the film "Red Sorghum" with his fans at a cinema in Stockholm on Sunday.

The film, which won the Golden Bear award at the 1988 Berlin International Film Festival, was based on Mo's novel of the same title.

The author attributed the film's success to the mutual trust between him and director Zhang Yimou. He said he gave the novel to Zhang and let him rearrange and revise it according to his own understanding of the story.

The other reason behind the success of the movie lies in its theme, which emphasized the liberation of personality, Mo said. The film was released when China started to conduct its policy of reform and opening up, and Chinese people at that time were eager to release their inner passions, he said.

The excellent use of music and color in the movie also added to its charm, he added.
