Beijing (CNS) -- Fourteen Chinese cities experienced their lowest temperatures this winter on Thursday, according to the National Meteorological Center.

In accordance with Daxue (heavy snow) on the Chinese lunar calendar, cities including Shenyang, Beijing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Guangzhou and Shanghai felt the intensified chill. Temperatures fell below zero in 10 cities.

In the next three days, cold air masses will remain active in much of China's northeastern provinces, where temperatures will drop even further, the center said.

Jointly influenced by Typhoon Bopha and a cold front moving south, there will be gales as high as level 10 in the southeastern, central and eastern parts of the South China Sea over the next two days, the center said.

The center also issued a blue alert for fog in most parts of southern China, including Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.
