Guangzhou (CNS) -- Numerous couples in Guangzhou are converging on the city's Civil Affairs Bureau to register their wedding dates for January 4 of 2013, the bureau said on Wednesday.

The date is significant because of its Chinese pronunciation: "2013-1-4" is similar to that of "Ai ni yi sheng yi shi," which means "love you forever."

Because Guangzhou citizens can reserve marriage certificates one month ahead of time, many started making online reservations Tuesday morning.

In order to make sure couples get certificates by January 4, some local civil affairs agencies have cancelled the online reservation system, forcing couples to appear in person.
