Hong Kong (CNS)-- Hong Kong has retained its title as China's most competitive city for the 11th consecutive year, according to the China Institute of City Competitiveness.

As a major hub of international finance, trade, tourism, shipping and information in the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong not only boasts the world's busiest container port, it also serves as an important gold trading center, the institute said on Wednesday.

Although Beijing and Shanghai have surpassed Hong Kong in terms of gross domestic product, the core competitiveness of Hong Kong lies in its full-fledged legal system, strong talent pool and sound social integrity, said Gui Qiangfang, president of the institute.

Hong Kong scored 14,879 points this year. Shanghai came in a close second with 14,607 points, followed by Beijing in third place.
