5,000 whooper swans arrive in Shandong

Weihai (CNS) -- More than 5,000 whooper swans from Siberia have landed at Swan Lake in Rongcheng, Shandong Province, according to the local authority on Tuesday.

The birds will spend four months at the lake, and workers from the local protection station have already prepared emergency food for them when the lake freezes, the authority said.

The arrival of the swans has brought many tourists to nearby villages, mostly photographers, outdoor enthusiasts and parents with their children.

We constantly have guests in our house recently, said the owner of a home inn.

Swan Lake of Rongcheng, known as China's hometown of whooper swans, receives tens of thousands of such birds from Siberia every winter.
