Beijing (CNS)-- NBA stars responded on Wednesday to questions about their motivations in China, saying they are not just here for money or an easier life.

Doubts about Tracy McGrady's ability have emerged since he joined the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles, especially after a game in Binzhou on Tuesday when the star's limited playing time caused outrage from the crowd, forcing him to apologize for being "sick."

McGrady put up a brave fight in his first game in China on Nov. 16.

"I didn't come for the money, since I have earned enough in the past 15 years when I served in the NBA," McGrady said. "I just want to give something back to my fans in China, since they have always stood firmly behind me even when I went through setbacks."

Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, who joined the Shanghai Sharks on Monday, also expressed his commitment to the CBA. "I came here to enjoy the pleasures of playing basketball," he said.
