Beijing (CNS) -- Overpriced housing, dysfunctional medical services, outrageous fees for education and insufficient pensions are the four major threats to happiness in China, according to a "Cost of Happiness" probe released by Sina Corporation on Tuesday.

Out of 20,000 surveyed microbloggers, 40 percent said housing prices were unaffordable and played a major part in happiness, or the lack of it.

The high cost of their children's education was also a key factor undermining the happiness of young parents. 25 percent said the government should reduce kindergarten expenses.

Medical services are too high, according to 25 percent of the surveyed netizens. 15 percent said it was difficult to make appointments and 15 percent said hospitals have ethical problems.

In addition, 22 percent were concerned about elderly life, with 19 percent saying seniors are treated unfairly.
