Mo Yan should stay humble, father says

Gaomi (CNS) - - Mo Yan has left the sorghum field but he shouldn't let it go to his head, said the Nobel laureate's father in his hometown on Wednesday.

Guan Yifan, 90, still lives in Gaomi, a county-level city in eastern Shandong province. He said he hadn't expected so many reporters, which had come from Chongqing, Sichuan Province, Beijing and Hong Kong, as well as Japan, Korea and the UK.

Guan said he had refused a proposal by the local government to restore Mo Yan's old house, because the family wants to keep a low profile and would do it themselves.

Mo achieved success through his own effort, and he will not accept the proposal either, Guan said.

I hope Mo will write more in the future, but not become conceited, he said.
