Beijing (CNS) -- China's tax revenue growth fell 18.8 percent in the first three quarters of 2012 compared with the same period last year, according to data released Monday by the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

Tax revenue grew 8.6 percent year-on-year to 7.74 trillion yuan in the first nine months, the ministry said.

From January to September this year, growth of value-added tax, consumer tax, business tax and enterprise income tax dropped 12.9 percent, 6.9 percent, 11.9 percent, and 21.1 percent respectively from last year.

Personal income tax growth slowed sharply, 42.8 percent less compared to the rate seen last year. Import tax revenue also showed a visible reduction in growth, as did tax income related to real estate.

The ministry attributed the decline to slowdowns in domestic economies, general prices, property sales and normal trading importation.

Another major cause was the reduction in the tax burden for individuals with middle and low incomes, as well as for small and micro-sized enterprises, export-oriented companies and businesses in rural areas, the ministry added.

Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang last week urged more taxation reforms and structural tax cuts to boost industrial upgrading and transform the economic growth pattern.
