Tibet starts first performing art troupe for disabled

13岁的藏族盲人姑娘德庆玉珍16日实现了人生中的首场“演出”。她上台演唱了一首台湾失明歌手萧煌奇的《你是我的眼》。

Lhasa (CNS) -- Deqing Yuzhen, a 13-year-old blind Tibetan girl, made her first public appearance on Tuesday when she sang "You Are My Eyes," a famous tune written by blind pop singer Xiao Huang-Chi.

Yesterday saw the founding of the Tibet Performing Art Troupe for the Disabled in Lhasa. It is the first group of its kind in the northwestern autonomous region and already has over 20 members.

"The founding of the group aims to build a friendly atmosphere for disabled people and encourage the vulnerable group in their lives and art careers," said Wangqing Gelie, honorary leader of the group.
