Shanghai (CNS) -- Retired National Basketball Association (NBA) star Yao Ming attracted much attention from the sidelines of the Clippers-Heat game Sunday in Shanghai.

Yao greeted several NBA stars before the game, including Shane Battier, who played with Yao in Houston, and Chris Paul, point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers. Yao also gave a warm hug to LeBron James, or "King James."

James said Yao has had an incredible influence on basketball in China and the US, and even in the world.

At a press conference prior to the game, NBA commissioner David Stern announced a large-scale cooperation between the NBA and the Yao Ming Foundation to promote the development of basketball in China.

The Los Angeles Clippers beat the Miami Heat 99-89.
