Nanjing (CNS) – The Chinese solar panel industry and local governments say they have taken an "active attitude" against the tariffs slapped on Chinese solar panels by the US Department of Commerce (DOC).

The DOC announced its final determination on Wednesday regarding duties on solar panel imports. Trina Solar, a producer and exporter of the products to the United States market, received a combined effective net rate of 23.75%, comprised of 18.32% in anti-dumping tariffs and 15.97% in countervailing duty tariffs.

Trina Solar responded to the DOC's final decision on Thursday: "While we disagree with the Department of Commerce's conclusions in this case, we will abide by their decision and look forward to the ITC's final ruling on this issue in November," said Gao Jifan, chairman and CEO of the company.

Mark Mendenhall, president of Trina Solar Americas, said they will still consolidate and develop business in North America.

The photovoltaic industry in Jiangsu Province accounts for two-thirds of the nation's, boasting the largest output of polysilicon in the world and a third of the world's production capacity of battery components.

Shi Heping, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, said at a photovoltaic industry forum that the local government will "make the industry develop healthily and not let backbone companies collapse."

Lv Fang from the China Photovoltaic Society said they are also working out effective methods to help companies go through the crisis.
