Beijing (CNS) – Chinese short-track speedskating star Wang Meng says her one-year suspension seemed more like five years, which was plenty of time to think about past mistakes.

Wang, who spoke Wednesday after an open training session at the Capital Gym, denied speculation that she hated the national team, saying she was grateful to the people who had helped her.

"I didn't know when I could go back to competition, so I just dedicated myself to daily training with younger athletes and waited," she said of her suspension. "That period was the most tranquil in my life."

Wang, who has four Olympic gold medals under her belt, was expelled from the national team last August and banned from all kinds of domestic competitions in January this year.
