Ningde (CNS) – Fujian's Pingnan County has stepped up efforts to conserve its intangible cultural heritages since 2001, a local official told CNS on Monday.

Lu Zeqi of the provincial culture office said the local government plans to integrate cultural heritages into tourism development and make sure those cultural features are inherited by future generations.

Lu cited the wooden arcade bridge, an architectural style exclusive to the county that has been listed as a world intangible cultural heritage. He also mentioned Siping Opera, which has been preserved by a special team formed by the local government.

Moreover, the government has named Jitou Village and Jixia Village as historic sites because of their culture of martial arts and agriculture, he said.

Huang Chuncai, 76, a third generation architect, said he was pleased by the government's efforts.
