Tianjin (CNS) – Green development does not mean regressing to a primitive state of existence, an expert said during a speech at the China International Eco-City Forum in Tianjin on Sunday.

Pan Jiahua, director of the Institute of Urban and Environment Studies (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences), said modern people cannot live where there is no electricity and Internet.

Industries with low pollution and emissions are needed for green development, while conventional industries with high energy consumption and heavy emissions shouldn't be limited, for they push society forward, Pan added.

Pan said we need a sustainable, people-centered, rich, convenient, healthy and harmonious green development with attention to history and culture.
