Eurostar transfers diamond patent to Chinese firm

Shanghai (CNS) -- Belgian company Eurostar Diamond Traders (EDT) announced on Wednesday that it would transfer the patent of the "Blue Flame" diamond cut to China's Tongling Group.

Cathy Buggenhout, Consul General of Belgium in Shanghai, attended the transferring ceremony.

The cooperation between EDT and Tongling sets an example for the diamond industries of the two countries, and I believe there will be more cooperation in the future, Buggenhout said.

EDT and its affiliates have agreed to invest another 150 million yuan in Tongling, raising its stake in the Chinese company to 15 percent.

It is the first time for the Chinese jewelry industry to hold a top diamond cutting patent.
